Use Magic Media to create photos, graphic and videos

Describe the image and video you want to see and watch it come to life!

Magic Media allows you to create an image, graphics, or video from a description and select your preferred style and size.

You can access Magic Media from the homepage or inside the editor.

• To find Magic Media on the Homepage, go to  Apps and type it into the search bar. Then, press the Enter key on your keyboard. Click on Magic Media. When the window opens, you can choose whether to use the app in an existing or new design.
• To access it from the editor, select Elements > Ai image generator. Magic media will appear under the line below apps if you’ve selected it before. Otherwise, by default, it'll appear in the “more from Canva” section of the Apps tab.

Using Magic Media’s Text to Image

Computer

1. On the editor side panel, click  Elements.
2. Under Ai image generator, click Generate your own and proceed by selecting Open once the window pops up.
3. A Magic media tab will appear under the line below apps.
4. Under the Images tab, enter a description of the image you want to see. The more detail you can provide, the better.
5. Choose a style and aspect ratio.
6. Click Generate Image.
7. To add the generated image to your design, click on the image.
8. To create another image, select  Generate again.

If you’d like to generate more images similar to a specific image, click the  icon on your preferred image and select  Generate more like this.

Mobile

1. From the toolbar at the bottom of the editor, tap  Elements.
2. Under Ai image generator, click Generate your own and proceed by selecting Open once the window pops up.
3. Under the Images tab, enter a description of the image you want to see. The more detail you can provide, the better.
4. Choose a style and aspect ratio.
5. Tap on Generate Image.
6. To add the generated image to your design, tap on the image.
7. To create another image, tap  Generate again.

If you’d like to generate more images similar to a specific image, tap the  icon on your preferred image and select  Generate more like this.

Using Magic Media’s Text to

Computer

4. Select the Videos tab, and enter a description of the video you want to see. The more detail you can provide, the better.
5. Click the Generate video button and wait 1-2 minutes for your video to be processed.
6. To add the generated video to your design, click on the video.
7. To create another video, select  Generate again.

Mobile

1. From the toolbar at the bottom of the editor, tap  Elements.
2. Under Ai image generator, click Generate your own and proceed by selecting Open once the window pops up.
3. Tap on the Videos tab and enter a description of the video you want to see. The more detail you can provide, the better.
4. Click the Generate video button and wait 1-2 minutes for your video to be processed.
5. To add the generated video to your design, click on the video.
6. To create another video, tap  Generate again.

Every generated video will be 4 seconds long and has a watermark on the bottom right-hand corner.

If you run into an error while using the feature, try rewording your description or checking your internet connection.

Styles and sizes to choose from in Magic Media

Magic Media allows you to choose from a wide range of styles when generating an image. You can also select your preferred size or aspect ratio.

Using Magic Media’s Text to Graphics

 

Computer

If you’d like to generate more graphics similar to a specific graphic, click the  icon on your preferred graphics and select  Generate more like this.

Styles to choose from with Text to graphics

Magic Media allows you to choose from a wide range of styles when generating graphics. The graphics created will be created in PNG file format.

• Simple: Doodle, Sticker, Monoline, Organic, Line art, Sketch
• Artistic: Hand drawn, Vintage, Cartoony, Risograph, Impasto, Geometric
• Detailed: 3d chrome, Gold foil, Scrapbook, Isometric

What are the limitations of Magic Media?

• Canva Free users have 50 lifetime Magic Media’s Text to image uses, while 5 lifetime uses for videos.
• Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva for Nonprofits, and Canva for Education users have 500 monthly uses with Magic Media's Text to Image. This limit refreshes at midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on the last day of the month.
• Canva Pro, Canva Teams, Canva for Nonprofits, and Teachers and Admins on a Canva for Education plan have 50 monthly uses with Magic Media's Text to Video. This limit refreshes at midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on the last day of the month.
• If your text prompt doesn’t generate an image or video, this doesn’t count as a use.
• Magic Media's Text to Video generates 1 video and counts as 1 use.
• At the bottom of the sidebar, a counter will show how many uses you have left.
• It only takes instruction from the text you entered. The more specific you are, the better your result.
• It works best when using very specific keywords and phrases.

 

Always use your best judgment and be a good human when using and sharing content generated by AI image generation apps.

What can I use Magic Media for?

Magic Media lets you generate images and videos from a simple text prompt in seconds. Type what you're looking for, choose your preferred style and size, and watch as it generates your image and videos for you.

Here are some ideas to use for these apps.

• Generate an image you can't find in our media library or anywhere else, or an image that doesn't exist, in seconds.
• Visualise a new concept or idea to test and experiment quickly.
• Create truly one-of-a-kind images/video and marketing assets.
• Brainstorm, seek inspiration, and outsource some early creative thinking using text prompts.
• Express yourself and unleash your creativity.

Can I control who in my team has access to Magic Media?

You can choose who can access Magic Media in your team or class if you're a team admin, Teacher, or team brand designer. Depending on the language set in Canva, some team members might not have access to Magic Media even if it's enabled. Learn how to change your team's access to Magic features.

Who owns the copyright in AI-generated images and videos?

There’s no easy answer to this since the treatment of AI-generated works under copyright law is an open question. Answers may vary depending on the country you live in.

• We currently don’t make any copyright claim over the images you create with Magic Media,
• Between you and Canva, you own the images and videos you create with Magic Media, which are subject to you following our Terms. However, this doesn’t mean you're the copyright owner of the images nor have exclusive rights to them.
• Under our Terms, you give us the right to host the images you generated on our platform and use them for marketing our products.

Similarly, if you use these apps to create recognizable characters or brands, these may be protected by copyright or trademarks. If you plan to use these images, please get permission from the rights owner. We can't give you this permission.

How is Canva moderating these apps and ensuring safe use?

Our values define how we build our products, treat our community, and impact the world. We want to ensure our community feels safe when creating and interacting with content on our platform.

To ensure our community can enjoy Magic Media safely and responsibly, we've put various measures in place. This includes automated reviews of input prompts for terms that might generate inappropriate imagery. You can also report unsafe images to us.

We will not tolerate any use of these apps that violates our Terms or Acceptable Use Policy.
