Welcome to Canva's guide on creating and managing lessons for teachers. In this guide, you'll learn how to effectively use ready-to-teach lessons, create your own lessons from scratch, and share them with students for an interactive learning experience.

When to Use This Guide:
This page is designed to help you navigate issues related to creating and tracking lessons in Canva. Whether you're using pre-made content or building lessons from scratch, the steps below will support your educational goals.

Using Ready-to-Teach Lessons:
  1. From the Home page, click on Templates.
  2. Select Education from the side panel to access a variety of ready-to-teach lessons.
  3. Browse through the lessons and click See all or use the Resource Type filter to find specific lessons.
  4. Click on a lesson to preview its content, including grade and subject details.
  5. To use a lesson, select Use Lesson. It will be saved to your Projects with accompanying resources, including Teacher answer keys.
  6. Access and modify Teacher answer keys by selecting the main folder in Projects.

Creating Your Own Lesson:
  1. Open the folder you wish to transform into a lesson. Click More, then Turn into a lesson to get started.
  2. If starting fresh, go to Home, click Projects, and select Add new followed by Lesson.
  3. Navigate through Templates to explore various ready-to-use templates by Subject, Grade, or Resource type. Use filters to narrow down your search by topic or color.

Editing, Sharing, and Assigning Lessons:
  1. Rename a lesson by clicking the Banner. For description adjustments, use the text box located below the Banner.
  2. Activities within the lessons can be edited by selecting them to change their content.
  3. Add activities by clicking Add new or Add activity to your lesson.
  4. Switch an activity to Solo Work mode for students to complete individually and submit back to you.
  5. Rearrange activities by dragging them into the desired order.
  6. Remove an activity by clicking the three dots icon and selecting Remove from folder or Move to trash.
  7. Preview the lesson layout by clicking Open Lesson.

Sharing and Assigning to Students:
  1. Share your lesson with fellow teachers by clicking Share and entering their names. Send them a lesson link via Copy link.
  2. To assign a lesson, click Assign lesson. If needed, create a class and add students by clicking Create a class.
  3. Search for the specific class or students in the popup search bar, toggle to notify them, and click Assign to complete.

Student Progress Tracking:
  • Access the Reporting tab to monitor students' progress, including Not started, In progress, and Completed statuses.

For Students:
  1. Access teacher-shared lessons through the email notification link or by clicking Notifications on the homepage.
  2. Lessons are laid out sequentially. Select Start lesson to begin or Resume lesson to continue from where you left.
  3. Advance through activities using the Next activity button, and click Finish lesson upon completion.
  4. For Solo work activities, complete and submit your version to the teacher using the Send to teacher option.
