Alt text, or alternative text, is essential for making your images accessible to people with visual impairments. By adding alt text to your images and design elements, you allow screen readers to read the descriptions aloud, providing a textual alternative to the visual content and helping with search engine optimization.
When Can You Use Alt Text?
You can add alt text to images from the Canva library, any images you upload, and design elements such as shapes, lines, and graphics. This feature is available across all devices - Desktop Web, Desktop App, Mobile Web, and Mobile App.
How to Add Alt Text to Your Images
- Select the image or element you wish to add alt text to.
- Look for the option to edit or add alt text in the settings menu.
- Enter a brief and descriptive text that accurately represents the content of the image.
- Save your changes to ensure the alt text is added.
Exploring Alt Text Suggestions
Canva's new "Suggest for Me" feature can help generate alt text using machine learning technology, making it easier if you're unsure of what to write.
Available Subscriptions
