Understanding and Using the Grab Text Feature in Canva
When to Use This Page
Use this page to learn about the Grab Text feature available on Canva, which allows you to edit and customize text within images easily.

Overview of Grab Text
The Grab Text feature in Canva revolutionizes your design experience by enabling you to edit previously uneditable text present in images. This feature is particularly beneficial for customizing various materials, like worksheets from books, and is accessible to users with Pro, Teams, NFP, or Education subscriptions on both Desktop and Mobile platforms.

How Does It Work?
The Grab Text feature separates text from images, allowing you to manipulate it independently while leaving the image background intact. With the introduction of Grab Text V2, you can now select specific text to extract, giving you more control over the editing process.

Important Notes:
  • Text close to selected areas may become distorted during extraction.
  • Grab Text currently does not support non-Latin scripts.
  • This feature is not available in Canva Docs or the Modal Photo Editor on the homepage.

Best Practices for Using Grab Text
  • Ensure your photo is taken straight down to limit perspective distortion. Alternatively, scan documents before uploading them to Canva.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using Grab Text
For Web Users:
  1. Click the photo you wish to edit. Note that Grab Text does not support images framed, in grids, or as page backgrounds.
  2. Select 'Edit Photo' on the toolbar, then choose 'Grab Text.'
  3. Allow processing time for the text extraction.
  4. Reposition or edit the text to your preference.
  5. Click the back arrow next to Grab Text to continue design editing.

For Mobile Users:
  1. Tap the photo you wish to edit. Remember, Grab Text does not support images in frames, grids, or page backgrounds.
  2. Access 'Effects' on the toolbar below and select 'Grab Text.'
  3. Wait for the feature to process your photo.
  4. Adjust the text placement or make edits as needed.
  5. Close the feature to return to your design.

Limitations and Feedback
While Grab Text offers unprecedented ease in text editing within images, it may have limitations, such as not supporting vector/svg elements.
